Dallas Cowboys: Michael Gallup

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys trotted out Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Cedric Wilson and Noah Brown as the wide receiver quintet. Each receiver had specific and distinct roles that made the offense effective throughout the year.

Amari was the clear number 1 receiver in most people’s estimation even though CeeDee was making ground as the heir apparent. Michael was the contested deep threat receiver. Cedric Wilson was the bullpen receiver who could play multiple positions and Noah was the special teams/blocking ace.

When the full machine was running on all cylinders, it was a well-oiled machine in most cases. However, if one or more of those receivers was missing, the kinks in the armor quickly appeared. Michael Gallup’s injury to his ACL against the Arizona Cardinals was the kink in the armor.

The effective deep threat receiver was removed from the equation and even the casual fan recognized that there was a difference in the offense.

However, thus far, Gallup has accounted for 39 receptions for 424 yards and 4 touchdowns. The expectations of him were minimal upon his return and they progressively trended upward as he moved further away from his injury.

Dak is going to rely on Gallup to make one or two contested catches that will be pivotal in this game. When those catches take place, opponents and fans alike will quickly remember the trajectory Gallup was on pre-injury and how much his presence will mean for the Dallas Cowboys in this matchup.

Dallas still has a steep hill to climb but having these players either back from injury or heavily included in the game plan will help them get to their first NFC title game since 1996. The Cowboys are deep, talented and hungry for a playoff success.
