Round Four – Keondre Coburn – Defensive Tackle – Texas

One of the biggest needs the Dallas Cowboys have had for several years is a true run defender in the middle of the defensive line. Johnathan Hankins helped, but he couldn’t stay healthy and the drop-off when he wasn’t on the field was noticeable. Coburn helps against the run and can add a little in the pass rush inside as well.

Coburn has a stout frame and a quick first step to get inside of an offensive lineman quickly. He flashes at times with big plays in penetration in both the pass and run. With a high motor he chases plays well and will surprise with his quickness. His power shows up inside and if he can get to the lineman first can disrupt the play quickly.

Coburn does have some length issues which will sometimes cause him to get into a block and unable to disengage. While he has the skillset, the size issues will limit his effectiveness early on. I like his first punch, but the rest of his handwork needs refinement which should help him with the length issues.
