Dallas Cowboys Round Six (Comp Pick – Cedrick Wilson) – Ventrell Miller- Linebacker – Florida

The reoccurring them this draft is depth! Linebacker might be a 1b when it comes to need and depth only behind cornerback. Micah Parsons may have been drafted as a linebacker but the Cowboys have fully committed to trying to use him as an edge. Late in the season Micah had to be moved back to linebacker at times due to injury and poor play by Anthony Barr.

With Anthony Barr hitting free agency and  unlikely to be resigned due to poor play, Ventrell Miller would be a plug-and-play at the Will position in Dan Quinn’s 4-3 defense. Miller is a compact built linebacker who excels against the run and is a ferocious tackler with a high motor who plays through the whistle.

Ventrell is listed as a Mike linebacker but lacks the size and arm length desired at the position. Hence, moving him to the Will position where he can showcase his elite and powerful tackling. He also will need to build his strength as he enters the pros while working on and honing his pass coverage skills. Overall, Miller is a physical and willing tackler who will meet opposing running back and defenders in the hole.

Dallas Cowboys Round Seven – Tyreque Jones – Safety – Boise State

Keeping with the Dan Quinn prototype, the Cowboys go back to their Boise State drafting well and select Tyreque Jones. Best suited as a nickel package safety, Jones is an enforcer who possesses elite length and power at the safety position. He also posses tremendous balls skills and soft hands with the ability to take one back for six at any given moment.

Tyreque isn’t equipped to play as a single-high safety as he is susceptible to double moves and struggles to flip his hips and turn out of his backpedal. As talented as he is with the ball in his hands he often loses track of the ball downfield resulting in missed opportunities to make and breakup plays. With proper coaching Jones could be a big hitter in crucial situations with the upside and ability to take one to the house.
