Dallas Cowboys Round 5 (176): CB Cory Trice, Purdue

I’ll take, “picks that look like Nahshon Wright” for $400, Alex. At 6-foot-3, 215lbs, Cory Trice, fits the mold Will McClay and Dan Quinn look for in a CB. The difference between Wright and Trice, is Trice is going 77 picks after the spot Wright went.

It’s important t point out, I’m not trying to sell Cowboys Nation on a pet cat here. This is a guy I see the Cowboys falling in love with, therefore he’s a guy I’m going to mock to them.

The Dallas Cowboys need to double-dip at CB this year. Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis could both be gone and Dallas has a big need to populate the ranks. DaRon Bland is the nickel guy and with any luck, their second rounder Kyu Blu Kelly is the starting CB2 right out of the gate. But behind them there isn’t much so we look to bring in new blood to challenge the aforementioned Wright and Kelvin Joseph out of the building.

Trice plays well down the sideline. He has highlights that will make you fall in love. In the things he does well, he looks good. But he stands tall so his center of balance is working against him. His change of direction is understandably suspect so he’s more scheme specific

Cory Trice gives the Dallas Cowboys another sideline cornerback who can excel in Cover 1 and Cover 3 schemes. He may never be an every down player, but he should be able to do the things the Cowboys hoped Wright was going to do.
