Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft 2023 (reloading the roster)
Dallas Cowboys pick 163 – Rashad Torrence II, Safety, University of Florida
I wrote a prior piece stating that the Dallas Cowboys should allow Donovon Wilson to walk. I still stand by that. There were a few different reasons that I made that declaration. One – Israel Mukuamu is an ascending player. However, Dallas may choose to use Izzy in a different role. If that is the case, there is a prize behind door number two – Rashad Torrence II out of Florida.
Standing 6’0″ 202 pounds with an ability to close and lay some lumber on receivers. Sign me up for that. He is an above average athlete, and the combine numbers will support that. The knock on him is the coverage ability. Let the record show, early in Wilson’s career, his coverage ability all but kept him in a reserve role and special teams. Dan Quinn was able to carve out a box safety role for him where he flourished. I imagine the same can be done for Torrence.
He was used all over the place in his three seasons at Florida. He was used as a box safety, deep safety and even in the slot. In Quinn’s defense, safeties need to be able to play multiple roles. Next season, I suspect Torrence will be a special team’s participant and there’s nothing wrong with that. I am banking on his potential and traits and those alone are worth a late day three type of pick.
