Dallas Cowboys Round Five – Isaiah McGuire – Defensive End – Missouri

With the first of three fifth-round picks, the Cowboys add to their speed rush and rotation with the addition of Isaiah McGuire. This young man not only can come in to relieve DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons, but he can also contribute to passing and running downs from day one.

McGuire has a unique combination of physical traits and a high motor. Where he really excels is in his run defense and determination to set the edge and get in the backfield.

As much as I love McGuire’s motor and run-stopping ability, he is a fourth-plus selection for a reason. He has room to grow when it comes to finishing at times to finish the play and needs to put on some weight to add some strength. At 6’4″ McGuire only weighs 275 pounds. With weight will come strength and the ability to expand his game to maximize his natural physical traits.

In Dan Quinn’s defense, Isaiah McGuire should make an above-average rotational player with the ability to push for a starting role as DeMarcus Lawrence could be gone in the next two to three seasons.
