Dallas Cowboys complete 7-round mock draft 2023: Cowboys trade back!
By Reid Hanson
The Dallas Cowboys find their perfect complementary back in Roschon Johnson
There are so many directions the Dallas Cowboys can take at running back this draft. With Ezekiel Elliott gone, Dallas has to replace the missing production. Tony Pollard is still in Dallas but for how long?
The Dallas Cowboys could look for a lead back to take over when Pollard leaves in 2024. Or they could re-sign Pollard and draft a back that complements Pollard much like the Zeke-TP pairing worked out.
I’m going to go with the latter here…
Roschon Johnson is someone Cowboys Nation has been high on all offseason. The Texas product has been working behind the best running back in the country at Texas, and could be sleeper at the RB position.
Johnson is a physical runner who is ideal as a thumper, short yardage, between the tackles kind of player. He would be the yin to Pollard’s yang. His broken tackle rate over the past two years leads the nation and his mileage has stayed low, indicating the best is yet to come.
Johnson has been a strong lead blocker and pass protector – a perfect replacement for Zeke as RB2. He can gains yards after contact and can catch the ball out of the backfield and downfield. He has it all and looks like the perfect complement to Tony Pollard.
With so many accomplished runners in the class, Johnson could easily slip through the cracks and be an absolute steal for the Dallas Cowboys here.
