Dallas Cowboys Complete 7-Round Mock Draft 2023: Roster Management
By John Herndon
Dallas Cowboys Round 1, Pick 30 – Michael Mayer – TE Notre Dame
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 257
Trade w/ Eagles.
The Eagles received: Pick 26
Dallas received: Pick 30 and 94
Michael Mayer has earned a great reputation as a player since his freshman year. He is thought of as the most “accomplished” and “complete” tight end compared to the other talented ones.
Measuring 6 feet 5 inches and 257 pounds. He looks like a pro-ready NFL tight end. Having the right size, strength and reach to cause mayhem as a pass-catcher.
His blocking skills from this position have been highly impressive. We’ve seen some great tight end prospects over the years, and Mayer ranks among the best. He has a knack for making almost anything look easy.
He does not have the same level of quickness as someone like Luke Musgrave, but that is not a major concern for me. Come Sunday, he will have opposing defenses in disarray and provide you with all you desire.
Dallas Cowboys Round 2, Pick 58 – Will McDonald IV – EDGE Iowa State
Height: 6-4 | Weight: 245
Will McDonald IV has a plethora of outstanding physical and athletic abilities on tape. During his college career, he has played in over 50 games.
His sack stats decreased last year, but I’m not concerned because he had to play in a variety of spots on the defensive line as Iowa State’s 3-4 DE. Watching him flourish while being part of Dan Quinn’s defense.
When you are seeking a speed rusher for your defensive line, Will McDonald IV is the perfect example. His game is all about speed and you can see it on tape.
His body is the perfect size for his frame and is highly explosive, agile, with quick reactions and very flexible.
He has an immense wingspan and arm length that serves him well when he is seeking to destroy the quarterback. He is stronger than he appears and will battle in the trenches despite people saying he is not a stout run defender.
His motor runs hot, and he has showed great attention to detail when executing his pass-rush plan.
Dallas Cowboys Round 3, Pick 91 – Tyler Scott – WR Cincinnati
Height: 6-2 | Weight: 205
Trade w/ Bills.
The Bills received: Pick 90
Dallas received: Pick 91 and 130
Tyler Scott is a remarkable athlete with elite track speed. He is the classic example of a speed merchant.
Whenever he has the ball in his hands, he poses a serious scoring threat. Space is his friend. He can take a quick or intermediate pass right to the house.
His ability to be successful at all levels of the field, his proficiency after the catch, and his vertical skills make him an excellent potential No. 2 receiver in the NFL.
He has little experience playing out of the slot position but he provides additional juice on the outside.
