Dallas Cowboys Complete 2023 Mock Draft- Dan 4.0
Round Four – Jerrod Clark – Defensive Tackle – Coastal Carolina
Arguably one of the biggest needs for the Dallas Cowboys is at the 1-tech position on the defensive line. While they did re-sign Jonathan Hankins, the depth behind him, now that Carlos Watkins isn’t returning, is rather thin and inconsistent. When Hankins went down last year, there was a clear need on the inside of the line to slow down runners. Clark offers a huge upside in run defense, with some glimpses of more.
If the Dallas Cowboys want a guy who will not be moved in the run game and has the ability to play in both even and odd fronts, Clark fits all of those bills. His power from the snap is evident as oftentimes the offensive lineman is being walked backward. His initial punch hits heavy and can jar even the more powerful interior linemen. He is consistent in man and zone-blocking schemes with the ability to see both and adjust to both.
While Clark offers a lot in the way of run defense, it is pass rushing where he will need to work on his overall skillset. For as much power as Clark has, his ability to shed blocks and get after the quarterback is sporadic at best. His motor helps him, but consistently shedding and attacking just isn’t consistent enough just yet, although the flashes are there.
