Dallas Cowboys Draft: 5 high end wide receivers to target early
Dallas Cowboys Option No. 5
Marvin Mims is a receiver that has gotten interest from anywhere in the second to the third round. Mims is another receiver who can play inside and out, but his speed is the big catch for Mims for whichever team grabs him. Mims is a deep playmaker for a team that has lacked long speed on offense, and the Cowboys are certainly in that bucket on offense. Sure, the Cowboys grabbed Cooks, but Mims could give some flexibility to move both Cooks and Lamb around more.
Mims has the deep speed to beat defenses over the top and his acceleration to to speed has to be accounted for. He is a finisher with the ball in his hands and finding ways to get him in space will greatly help him and the offense. He will make some great catches, and while there are some concerning drops, he flashes enough to think he can clean them up and be a deep weapon.
Mims is going to need work on his route tree, there is no other way to say it. He has great speed and agility, but his routes can be a little simple and if contacted his routes can get out of control. Hands are a little bit of a concern with dropped passes and fumbled punts, which if he doesn’t clean up could impact his overall ceiling. Will need to add some bulk to help with play strength.
