Dallas Cowboys Round 5, Pick 169 Jaquelin Roy, DT

Roy, 6-foot-4, 315 pounds is projected to go in the 4-5 range so getting him here in the fifth is a blessing. Physically, he meets all the requirements the Dallas Cowboys want in a DT. He’s stout, long, powerful, and athletic. He works hard and he’s durable.

He’s just unspectacular in his execution. He’s a jack of all trades and master of none. That may not be attractive in the top three rounds but it’s pretty great to find on Day 3. He can be what Neville Gallimore has failed to be – a well-rounded IDL who isn’t a liability in either phase of the game.

The LSU Tigers didn’t have the greatest defense last season yet Dan Quinn made it point to travel down to take part in their workouts. He showed a special love for DT Jaquelin Roy.

The Dallas Cowboys have a need to bulk up their interior defensive line because they don’t have much reliable girth. Hankins is a part time player on a one year deal. Bohanna is a role player who hasn’t quite developed yet. Osa is a 3-tech who doesn’t factor into the run defense much. And Gallimore has yet to turn into what he was supposed to.

Adding another big body like Roy would add a missing element to the bottom of the rotation and could be a diamond in the rough here on Day 3.
