Dan’s Best Case/Dream Scenario for the Dallas Cowboys

Jaxon Smith-Njigba. I know there will be a lot of people to point out that he played a lot of snaps out of the slot in college, but before he was injured, he was slated to be the starter outside. By the time he returned, Ohio State’s offense was humming with Marvin Harrison Jr and Emeka Egbuka.

If it ain’t broke, why fix it?

So JSN would end up playing a lot out of the slot, which opened a lot for the outside due to his savvy route running, great hands, and ability to gain extra yards. He may not be the fastest guy in this draft, but he is easily the smoothest and most technical route runner.

A pick of JSN would allow some flexibility for the Dallas Cowboys offense as he could move inside and out, which would allow the Cowboys to create mismatches for either CeeDee Lamb or Brandin Cooks.

With Michael Gallup having a down season last year rushing back from injury, Jalen Tolbert’s inability to see the field, and the rest of the depth not developing to where the team felt comfortable, JSN could give some breathing room should all these things hold true in 2023.

We all know the Cowboys have lacked speed at the wide receiver position, but that is why Brandin Cooks was picked up. Add in Simi Fehoko and Jalen Tolbert, should they both develop, then having a stocked wide receiver room is not a terrible thing in this era of football.

What amounted to a huge weakness in 2022, could be one of the biggest strengths of 2023. JSN is my personal dream scenario and would do great things for this offense, especially in the playoffs should they return this year.
