Dallas Cowboys Complete 7-Round Mock Draft 2023: Bullies and playmakers
By John Herndon
Before I made my selection for the draft, the first trade that was conducted was between the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys. I was the recipient of a trade where the Saints offered me their 29th and 71st pick in the draft in exchange for my picks of 26 and 129
Dallas Cowboys Round 2, Pick 38 – Steve Avila – OG – TCU
Height: 6 – 3 | Weight: 332 |
Trade w/ Raiders.
The Raiders received: Pick 29 and 212
Dallas received: Pick 38 and 70
Steve Avila is a big blocker who absorbs the rush of defenders the moment they make contact. He’s all about raw power. He has hands so heavy they might as well be anvils.
During the last season, I saw him handle Mazi Smith and Jalen Carter better than anyone else. Incredibly competitive and has a passionate attitude that coaches adore.
He is a violent bully. Constantly searching for defenders to abuse and destroy. Smart and always locked in.
Extremely disciplined. Not a single holding penalty was assessed against him in 2022.
Other than left tackle, Avila started at least one game at four different offensive line positions over the last three seasons.
In 2022, his position changed from center to left guard. He offers incredible position flexibility. He managed to go without giving up a sack in 2022.
The Dallas Cowboys have been in a state of uncertainty at the left guard spot since Ron Leary’s departure. It is time to fix it.
Dallas Cowboys Round 2, Pick 58 – Felix Anudike-Uzomah – EDGE Kansas State
Height: 6 – 4 | Weight: 255 |
Felix Anudike-Uzomah stands out when it comes to alternating his rushes and staying engaged, even though his explosiveness and initial burst as a rusher is good.
When he first arrived at Kansas State, he was only 220 pounds, but now he weighs 255 pounds. He is physically prepared for the NFL.
His 6’4″ build gives off the impression of an NFL outside linebacker. He is able to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time due to his lengthy legs.
Anudike-Uzomah averaged 0.85 sacks per game and was the leader in the country with six forced fumbles. He made Wildcats history by becoming the first player with two three-sack games while also registering 14.5 tackles for loss.
His 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks made him the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Micah Parsons can assume the unicorn position of this defense once again. Anudike-Uzomah is equipped to assume the “LEO” role.
You can’t ever never have too many QB hunters.
