The Best Available players for the Dallas Cowboys on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft

With one pick down the Dallas Cowboys et their sights on Day 2 of the draft. Who are the top players they should be watching for Pick 58?

Darnell Washington – TE Georgia

Darnell Washington is a man among men. A five-star recruit in the 2020 class. While he didn’t have elite production as a pass catcher, his impact was very much felt while the Bulldogs won two national champions.

He is a destroyer in the running game. A massive man with elite strength and size.

I don’t believe he will ever be the central piece in the passing attack. He will be an elite red zone target.

Mike McCarthy talked about being an effective running team. The Dallas Cowboys wants to build a bully. What not start with your first pick of the draft, the most violent, tight end prospect we have seen in a long time?

Steve Avila – OG

Steve Avila is a big blocker who absorbs the rush of defenders the moment they make contact. He’s all about raw power. He has hands so heavy they might as well be anvils.

During the last season, I saw him handle Mazi Smith and Jalen Carter better than anyone else. Incredibly competitive and has a passionate attitude that coaches adore.

He is a violent bully. Constantly searching for defenders to abuse and destroy. Smart and always locked in. Extremely disciplined. Not a single holding penalty was assessed against him in 2022.

He would be a day one LG starter for the Dallas Cowboys.

O’Cyrus Torrence, OG

Has a well-built body frame with a strong core and a lean muscle composition. His stance is like a fountain of energy, with his feet moving quickly and precisely. Violent hands and highly competitive. During his 1,501 career pass-blocking snaps, he kept the quarterback safe and never allowed a single sack.

Another day one LG starter for the Dallas Cowboys.

Tyler Steen – OT

Tyler Steen possesses ideal length and frame density, allowing him to use his size to generate additional power when blocking. Bottom heavy,

When gathering and directing his strength correctly, Steen blows defenders off the ball. He has showed his ability to use upper-body strength to keep defenders out of the play in run defense.

Plays well in space with good range and a nasty attitude when finishing his blocks.

Trenton Simpson – LB

Trenton Simpson is an impressive athlete with excellent size and speed, his physicality allows him to work off blockers and his short-area burst and acceleration make it seem like he is playing at a different gear than the rest of the pursuit. He is most effective in a quick-paced defensive system where he can act as a run and pass defender and take on responsibility for covering the outside.

He would add depth and talent for the Dallas Cowboys linebackers.

Drew Sanders, LB

With his long and lean figure, Sanders is an extremely agile athlete who has the combination of instincts from an off-ball player and a pass rusher.

The Dallas Cowboys can not have enough edge rushers.

Derick Hall – Edge

Derick Hall is an aggressive, determined pass rusher with a good sense of linear athleticism and power in his hands. Measuring 6’3″ and weighing 254 pounds, he is a strong, solid, and well-balanced edge defender.

His skill set is similar to Cliff Avril – who thrive in the ‘LEO’ role in Seattle. Imagine what he can do in the ‘LEO” role for the Dallas Cowboys.

Across four seasons, Hall has accumulated 84 pressures, 27 QB hits, and 22 sacks. He has achieved a great deal during his college career. Hall was appointed as a team captain for the 2022 season.

Joey Porter Jr., CB

Joey Porter has the ideal length to play the press-man position on the perimeter, and then some. Possessing great hand-eye coordination and ball skills at the catch point.

The classic bump and run cornerback is suited to the cover 3 scheme, demanding physicality from the player as well as the ability to stay with their man.

Tank Bigsby – RB Auburn

Tank Bigsby is an exciting blend of vision, speed, power and inventive running instincts. He plays with a physicality in his game that is fun to watch.

The Auburn product has excellent processing speed, and can rapidly feel cutback lanes and run to them instinctively. A patient runner with fast feet that can evade big hits, explode to the second level in a hurry.  He would help upgrade the Dallas Cowboys backfield.

Kendre Miller – RB

Kendre Miller is a patient but imposing running back who never loses speed when tackled and usually gains more yards because of his powerful leg drive.

He was the lead running back for TCU for one year, and he had very little wear and tear. Miller was one of only nine FBS players in the year 2022 who had scored 17 or more rushing touchdowns.

He would help upgrade the Dallas Cowboys backfield.

Jonathan Mingo – WR

Jonathan Mingo has a distinct set of skills to bring to the WR room. Listed at 6’2″-225 lbs with 4.46 speed.

Mingo is a physical wide receiver with sizable hands, thus making him an effective weapon. Using his size, he is able to prevent defenders from getting to the catch point on slants or while going after the football.

Tyler Scott – WR

Tyler Scott is a remarkable athlete with elite track speed. He is the classic example of a speed merchant.

Whenever he has the ball in his hands, he poses a serious scoring threat. Space is his friend. He can take a quick or intermediate pass right to the house.
