The Dallas Cowboys are coming off back to back 12-5 seasons where they advanced to the postseason in both campaigns. They fielded one of the best offenses and defenses in the NFL and look to repeat that success again in 2023.

With the bulk of free agency over and the draft complete, the Dallas Cowboys now turn their attention to their upcoming minicamps and OTAs. The new season is fast approaching and the Dallas Cowboys hope to challenge the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East division crown. There hasn’t been a repeat division champ in 19 years and the Cowboys want to keep that impressive streak alive.

The Dallas Cowboys 2023 offseason practice schedule (what we know and what we don’t)

It starts with the rookie minicamp. Rookie minicamp is a time for the newest draft picks, UDFAs, and nonveteran players get on the field and get acclimated to the NFL game.

There aren’t pads or contact but players can show off some of their athletic traits (particularly skill players) and they get a feel for the structure of practice. Players will receive playbooks, get a tour of the facilities, and get a full breakdown of expectations.

Depending on their remaining school schedule they will get involved in the OTA and other voluntary aspects of the offseason program.

OTAs and the offseason workouts are voluntary so not every player is expected to attend. It’s a time when players can get on the same age as coaches and make sure they stay ahead of the curve rather than fall behind. It’s also a time for lesser known players to make a name for themselves around the facilities.

The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff takes notice of who’s around and that goes a long way in determining the pecking order in training camp and winning tiebreakers for the depth chart. A great example of this is two years ago with Terence Steele and La’el Collins. Coaches loved Steele’s work ethic and dedication to the offseason program. They loathed Collins for the same reasons. Steele won out. Not because of ability, but for character reasons. OTAs matter.

Finally there’s the all-important training camp. The schedule for Cowboys Camp 2023 is yet to be determined but the Dallas Cowboys are returning to Oxnard so things are likely to be very similar. In 2022, camp started on July 27 and extended through August 10. It then moved back to Texas to conclude in Frisco.
