An early try at the 2023 Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction
By John Herndon
Dallas Cowboys Linebackers (5)
Leighton Vander Esch, Damone Clark, DeMarvion Overshown (R), Jabril Cox, Durrell Johnson (UDFA).
The starters will be Leighton Vander Esch and Damone Clark. Jabril Cox will provide nickel coverage.
This unit benefits from the youth, athleticism, and versatility of DeMarvion Overshown and Durrell Johnson.
The Dark Horse is Isaiah Land. It seems unlikely that Dallas will feel the need to bring on a veteran. I’ve already been through that. I can see the Cowboys going with six at this spot.
The benefits weren’t worth the effort. Tyrus Wheat offers position flexibility.
Dallas Cowboys Cornerbacks (6)
Trevon Diggs, Stephon Gilmore, DaRon Bland, Jourdan Lewis, Myles Brooks (UDFA), Israel Mukumamu
Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore have been designated as the boundary cornerbacks for the team. DaRon Bland’s ability to perform effectively in both the slot and outside positions highlights his versatility on the field. They are Cowboys’ top three cornerbacks on the roster.
Jourdan Lewis adds veteran depth/insurance to the team. Myles Brooks is ready for the NFL. Incredible versatility is provided by Israel Mukumamu.
Eric Scott is The Dark Horse. Despite being inexperienced, I won’t limit any young player’s potential. It’s my opinion that Kelvin Joseph’s time in Dallas is up.
Dallas Cowboys Safeties (4)
Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell
The Dallas Cowboys secondary is once again headed by King Ghidorah. Jayron Kearse, Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker will be the starters again.
Dallas isn’t likely to let go of Markquese Bell. Due to his high potential, it was too risky to expose him to the waiver wire.
Dallas Cowboys Special Teams (5)
KaVonte Turpin – Returner
C.J. Goodwin – Special Teams Ace
Bryan Anger – Punter
Trent Sieg – Long Snapper
Kicker – TBD
