Top 3 NFL free agents the Dallas Cowboys may explore
By John Herndon
Now that the NFL draft is done, we can shift our focus to the remaining free agents who might be able to boost the Dallas Cowboys for the upcoming season.
It is a commonly accepted fact that the Dallas Cowboys are not being big spenders in the free agency market. The Dallas Cowboys rely on drafting and developing players. They will prioritize paying their own first and searching for deals in free agency.
I appreciate this strategy. No one comes out victorious by burning money in free agency. The impulsive teams follow this path, as history has showed. That’s not how to build a football team.
Free agency’s initial three waves have ended. Although the free agency market has dried up, there are still quality free agent players available. Dallas will spend if a good opportunity presents itself, but are any good opportunities available?
Let’s see who’s left.
The Dallas Cowboys might benefit from examining these top free agents who are still available once training camp starts.
Dalton Risner, OG (27-years-old)
Throughout his NFL career, Risner has been a starter in every single one of the 62 games he has taken part in. The issue with the left guard position for the Dallas Cowboys is a concern, however, he may have the potential to solve it.
Risner was graded as the 42nd best guard in the league with a +61.1 overall grade by PFF.
Risner’s conduct off the field has been nothing short of exemplary ever since he was drafted in the second round in 2019, earning him the reputation of a model citizen. Risner’s backup experience during the season would benefit the interior offensive line greatly.
This all comes down to price.
Risner may have to make drastic revisions to his monetary goals to make things work out. A one-year prove-it deal could be his next move.
