3. Jake Ferguson, Tight End
Another position the Dallas Cowboys could look to reset in 2025 is the tight end position.
Jake Ferguson had a nice breakout year in 2023 but is not a dynamic player by any stretch, and had a down year in 2024. The selection of Luke Schoonmaker hasn't worked out as well as the Cowboys had hoped, and this season could be pivotal for him.
If Dallas is staring Penn State's Tyler Warren or Michigan's Colston Loveland in the face with the 12th overall pick, those guys might be tough to pass on. They are two of the rare "blue-chip" types of players in the 2025 NFL Draft class and would be substantial upgrades in just about every way at the position for the Cowboys.
As much as it gets talked about that Dallas needs to upgrade its receiver room and situation opposite CeeDee Lamb, they could get creative in finding ways to truly take attention off of Lamb when they are throwing the ball. A dynamic tight end would help them do that and if the Cowboys would draft someone like Warren or Loveland, then it stands to reason that Jake Ferguson could be on the move.
The former fourth-round pick is entering the final year of his deal and the Cowboys could move forward with a group that includes Warren/Loveland, Schoonmaker, and Brevyn Spann-Ford atop the depth chart. Ferguson probably wouldn't yield much in a trade but with his age and history of production, a Day 3 pick isn't out of the question.
