The Dallas Cowboys made one of the most underwhelming head coach hires in the 2025 circuit when they hired Brian Schottenheimer, but it's not always the splashiest moves that end up being the most successful when it comes to the NFL head coach carousel.

Schottenheimer would know. He was hired to Urban Meyer's Jacksonville Jaguars staff back in 2021 before you-know-what hit the fan...

But just because the Cowboys made an underwhelming hire compared to the big dreams people may have had for filling the shoes of Mike McCarthy, it doesn't mean this team can't gear up and make some big splashes when it comes to free agency and trades in 2025. In fact, maybe we see the Cowboys get really aggressive on the trade market now that Schottenheimer has been hired.

Jerry Jones is going to want to make this move look good by any means necessary.

Dallas is going to have to free up some cap space to get super aggressive, but NFL teams can find ways around the salary cap if they are motivated to do so. With the pressure on in a big way and both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb under contract, who could be some bold trade targets this offseason?

3 Dallas Cowboys trade targets to pair with new HC Brian Schottenheimer

1. Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets

One of the common themes you will see for many Brian Schottenheimer offenses through the years is a variety of backs who can really eat up touches. He likes to get a variety of guys involved on all three downs and you don't have to look much further than his years with the Seattle Seahawks where they had Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, Malik Davis, and others to see that.

But the common denomenator in those offenses is always a back who could shoulder the workload if need be. Schottenheimer liked to utilize multiple guys, but he also liked to load up one guy with a lot of touches if possible. And Breece Hall is exactly the type of back who could do just that for the Dallas offense.

Hall is entering a contract year in 2025. The Jets are coming off of a down year and have a new GM and head coach, which could mean loading up on assets. I could see new GM Darren Mougey being willing to part with Hall for the right price and Dallas could use a proven every-down back.
