2. Ezekiel Elliott, Running Back

It's always cool in the NFL to see reunions like we saw with the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott in the 2024 offseason. The former first-round pick out of Ohio State became an instant superstar in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys after he was drafted, and everybody who watches or follows the Cowboys closely knows how brutal it was for Jerry Jones to ultimately make the financially responsible decision to let Elliott go after the 2022 season.

The Patriots scooped Elliott up last year and he played well enough to warrant another one-year contract somewhere in 2024, and it just so happened to work out perfectly for the cap-strapped Dallas Cowboys to bring back their old friend.

Everything seemed set up perfectly on paper for Elliott to have a successful second stint with the Cowboys but things pretty much could not have gone worse up to this point. Through the first six games of the season, Elliott is averaging a career-worst 3.4 yards per touch with just 151 total yards and one touchdown so far this season.

At this stage, it's hard to fathom the Cowboys coming out of the bye week with the same strategy and philosophy they have had at the running back position, right? Not that they can go acquire some All-Pro back during the bye week, but the Cowboys definitely need to shuffle the rotation or something because the way that Elliott has played so far this season is barely replacement level.

The options might be slightly limited but the Cowboys have to do something to prove that they're not going to send their bucket down an empty well over and over again.
