3. Somebody at the safety position

I think it would be a little bit of a stretch to say that the Dallas Cowboys have an "embarrassment of riches" at the safety position, but the safety group the Cowboys have is pretty good, and they are hoarding some players who deserve more time on the field.

As of right now, the Cowboys have been playing safeties Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker more than anybody not named Trevon Diggs on the defense this season. While Dan Quinn got a lot of these safeties on the field in different ways, Mike Zimmer doesn't seem to have the same types of intentions.

The Cowboys have gotten nice contributions in the past from players like Israel Mukuamu, Markquese Bell, and Juanyeh Thomas, but those guys have barely seen the field at all defensively in 2024. And when I say they've barely seen the field at all, I mean they have played a combined 48 snaps defensively.

Is it nice to have depth? Absolutely. Should the Cowboys be hoarding these guys with a "break glass in case of emergency" type of mindset? I don't think that would be wise.

There are going to be teams out there that need help at this position whether it's because their guys are playing bad or they have injuries at the position. The Cowboys might start getting calls on some of their backup safeties and given the direction we're seeing Mike Zimmer take with the top two guys (Wilson and Hooker), it would make plenty of sense for them to part ways with at least one of them before the deadline gets here.
