They say the grass is greenest where you water it, not just on the other side of the fence. Unfortunately for a lot of NFL players, teams can't afford to keep everybody which leads to players leaving great situations every single year, or teams having to make difficult financial decisions about which guys to keep and which guys to let go.

The Dallas Cowboys faced a number of those situations in the 2024 offseason as their salary cap situation was extremely tight and they were forced to say goodbye to a wide variety of key players on both sides of the ball.

But which former Cowboys are probably wishing they were back in Dallas right now? The way the Cowboys have played this season, maybe not many. But there are undoubtedly some...

3 Former Cowboys Who Probably Wish They Were Still in Dallas in 2024

1. Tyron Smith, Offensive Tackle, Jets

To say this season hasn't worked out the way the New York Jets had hoped would be the understatement of the year. The Jets have pushed all their chips into the center of the table for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, and they are going to come away with absolutely nothing, in all likelihood.

One of the star players who bolted to join the "super team" being built in New York was longtime Dallas Cowboys starting left tackle, All-Pro, and Pro Bowler Tyron Smith. Smith signed a short-term deal to join the Jets and Aaron Rodgers, leaving Dallas likely due to the fact that they couldn't afford him anymore.

The Cowboys moved on with Tyler Guyton in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Smith has to be wondering if he wouldn't have just been better off figuring out a way to make it work in Dallas. The Jets are 2-6 heading into their Week 9 matchup at home against the Houston Texans and while Smith is obviously not the problem there, you can't help but wonder how much help it would be to have had the whole band together in Dallas after the progress they'd made over the last handful of years.
