2. Damone Clark, Linebacker
Just about every outlet out there that has had to come up with some ideas for Dallas Cowboys cap casualties is going to say Damone Clark, but maybe we add a little bit of a twist with this one...
What if the Cowboys could trade Damone Clark?
Dallas is obviously pretty well set up at the linebacker position with key players like De'Marvion Overshown and Marist Liufau looking like recent NFL Draft hits for the team. Those guys will continue to play large roles going forward and the Cowboys could look to reset the clock with another draft pick at this position or perhaps a budget-friendly free agent.
Heck, taking a risk on a budget-friendly free agent worked out pretty well for the Eagles with Zack Baun this past year, didn't it?
Clark is set to count over $3.38 million against the Cowboys' cap space this year. They could save $3.325 million by letting him go or trading him in the coming weeks. Even if facilitating a trade would be difficult given the fact that he's in the last year of his deal, Clark is a younger player at a position that is not exactly loaded heading into free agency.
He might have a decent market.
Unless Matt Eberflus is hellbent on keeping him around, this is an easy way for the Cowboys to free up a good chunk of cap space which would more than double their current cap space total of just over $2 million.
