3 Rangers Leaving Texas in the New Year
By Jack Gurley
With 2025 upon us, the Rangers are looking to move on from their disappointing 2024 season and continue to transform their roster into a more competitive one, with spring training only a few months away.
While Chris Young and the rest of the Rangers' front office work to reshape the roster, multiple Rangers will be entering their final season with the team. Here are three Rangers who will find 2025 to be their final year playing in Arlington.
1. Jack Leiter
Many Rangers fans will be disappointed to see Jack Leiter on this list, but they should not be surprised. After an unbelievably successful college career and a dominant stint in the minors, Leiter was once one of the most esteemed prospects in the MLB. However, since Leiter arrived on the scene for the Rangers this past season, he has been consistently disappointing and unable to sustain any long-term success.
Leiter finished his disappointing rookie season with an abysmal 8.83 ERA through only nine games. While Leiter was able to show some signs of improvement near the end of the season, it was not enough to give the Rangers front office confidence that he will be able to become the All-Star caliber pitcher they once believed him to be.
This season will likely have huge implications on how the rest of Leiter's career plays out. It will likely be a do-or-die season for Leiter with the Rangers, and if he is not able to put up an adequate performance his days with the organization will likely be coming to an end.
It is disappointing to see how Leiter's career has panned out so far, as he is far from the dominant pitcher the Rangers believed him to be. While Leiter is not in an ideal spot in his career, he still remains young and does have time to revert into the dominant pitcher he was during his collegiate career and his time in the Rangers' farm system.
