4 Cowboys Whose Exits Would Be Addition by Subtraction This Offseason

If the Dallas Cowboys want to compete for a playoff spot in 2025, Jerry Jones must consider getting rid of these four players this offseason.

4. Donovan Wilson, S

The 2024 campaign marked Donovan Wilson's sixth with the franchise after being drafted 213th overall back in 2019.

Without missing an appearance, Wilson enjoyed a productive season as he racked up 44 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, five defended passes, two forced fumbles, and an interception. The former Texas A&M defensive back was also active outside of coverage, proven by his 69.9 pass rush and 69.7 run defense grades on PFF.

So, why would the Cowboys look to get rid of Wilson if he had a solid season? One word: money.

Dallas is dealing with a financial crunch as it currently sits at nearly $1 million over the 2025 salary cap. Moving on from Wilson would provide the Cowboys with considerable relief as they'll save $5.3 million by trading/waiving him before June 1. The savings will jump to $7 million if they wait until after that date.

With plenty of holes across the roster to fill, the Cowboys need as much money as they can get. Parting ways with Wilson would free up enough cash to address multiple areas, which is something Jones can't ignore after the tumultuous 2024 season.

As solid as he's been since 2019, it's clear that now is the best time for the Cowboys to say goodbye to Wilson.
