5 Rangers on Thin Ice This Offseason

The Texas Rangers will have a busy offseason if they want to return to the playoffs in 2025. With changes incoming, these five players find themselves on thin ice this winter.

3. Andrew Chafin, LHP

The Rangers added to their bullpen ahead of the trade deadline when they acquired left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Detroit Tigers. The former Kent State hurler was a solid reliever in the Motor City and the hope was that he could continue performing at that level following a move to the Lone Star State.

Unfortunately, Chafin's play headed in the wrong direction upon his arrival. The 34-year-old southpaw played to a 4.19 ERA and 1.655 WHIP in 21 relief appearances with the Rangers, which included allowing nine earned runs and 20 walks in only 19 1/3 innings of work.

Chafin is now a free agent this offseason and it's safe to say that there isn't an overwhelming reason for the Rangers to bring him back. He rarely lived up to expectations and walking away from him now means Davis can save even more money in the coming months.

If Chafin had played to expectations, it'd make complete sense to bring him back in 2025. However, he isn't getting younger and turns 35 in June, meaning there's a good chance that his best days are in the past.

With that in mind, it's time to say goodbye to Chafin.
