Anthony Davis Finally Shares Reaction to Mavericks-Lakers Blockbuster Trade
Dallas Mavericks fans are still adjusting to their new reality following this past weekend's blockbuster trade. Luka Doncic — who was expecting to be a Maverick for life — was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team deal that saw nine-time NBA All-Star big man Anthony Davis shipped to the Lone Star State.
Even though losing Doncic was a devastating blow, Mavericks fans can at least take solace in the fact that Davis is still one of the league's best frontcourt threats. Although the 31-year-old rebounder has been relatively quiet since the news broke, he finally revealed his thoughts regarding the trade during Tuesday's shootaround.
Mavericks News: Anthony Davis Was "Shocked" by Luka Doncic Swap
Tuesday's practice marked Davis' first team getting in on some action alongside his new teammates. It wasn't much longer after that when the newest Maverick told The Dallas Morning News' Mike Curtis about what was running through his mind when the trade was announced.
"I was shocked. I didn't know," Davis said. "I was actually at home about to watch a movie with my wife and got the phone call... I had no idea it was happening."
While Doncic's departure caught Dallas fans off guard, Los Angeles supporters didn't expect to see Davis traded, either. Lakers-related rumors often had them looking for a third star to play alongside Davis and LeBron James, not trading one of the two superstars.
Even though the 31-year-old rim protector was initially surprised by the trade, he's grown to accept his new situation.
"I'm kind of over it and just getting ready to play with Dallas," Davis said. "Nico (Harrison) believes in me and what I add to this team."
It'll be interesting to see how Davis fits alongside the likes of Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson going forward. The ex-Kentucky Wildcat is in the middle of another All-NBA-caliber season, averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals with .528/.298/.788 shooting splits across 42 appearances.
Mavericks fans likely won't have to wait much longer to see Davis suit up. The three-time league blocking leader could potentially make his Dallas debut on the road against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.
