After handing out contract extensions last year to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys could be looking to add superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons this offseason.

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have held general conversations with Micah Parsons’ agent about a contract extension. Dallas exercised the former first-round pick’s fifth-year option for $24 million, setting the stage for an extension this offseason.

Since Parsons’ is already under contract for 2025, a contract extension shouldn’t affect Dallas’ salary cap space for next season, which is only $3.8 million. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what the two sides can agree upon as Parsons’ new deal will likely set the market for pass rushers.

Spotrac projects the former first-round pick’s calculated market value as a four-year, $134.8 million deal with a $33.7 million average annual salary.

When you compare that to New York Giants pass rusher Brian Burns, who received a five-year, $141 million extension last year, the Cowboys star would have a higher AAV (Burns’ AAV – $28.2 million). San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa has the highest AAV for EDGEs ($34 million) and guaranteed money ($88 million).

The 25-year-old star has become one of the league’s best pass rushers since joining Dallas as the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Parsons recorded 84 combined tackles, 47 quarterback pressures, 30 QB hits, 20 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

For his efforts as a rookie, he was named to the Pro Bowl, first-team All-Pro, won Defensive Rookie of the Year, and finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year. In his four years with the Cowboys, Parsons has recorded 177 quarterback pressures and 52.5 sacks.

If the Cowboys can get Parsons’ extension done soon, they can figure out how they want to approach the rest of the offseason. Another of Dallas’ biggest priorities this offseason is re-signing defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who has played a huge part in the Cowboys’ success.
