The Dallas Cowboys' offense continues to fire on all cylinders. Despite missing multiple key players, Dak Prescott and company dominated the New York Jets on the road, putting up 37 points to go along with 416 total yards of offense.
Cowboys fans at MetLife Stadium showered Prescott with love, and he walked into the tunnel to MVP chants. However, when asked about that, the veteran signal-caller claimed that he 'didn't play as well as he wanted to,' according to team insider Jon Machota.
“I mean, my ears work,” Prescott said after the game, per Todd Archer of ESPN, “so I heard it, but I didn’t hear it. It’s Week 5. I don’t care. I don’t care if it was Week 17. I’ve told y’all what I want to win, the team goals. Right now, the success and the continued success is going to happen, [and] it’s just a beneficiary of all the guys in that locker room.”
Brian Schottenheimer Shares Thoughts on Dak Prescott's MVP Case
“I think we’re spoiled. I think he’s one of the best players in the league. He’s playing with a ton of confidence,” Schottenheimer said, per Jon Machota.
Prescott wasn't perfect, but he completed 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns while also being sacked once. He also had seven carries for 28 yards, and he found six different receivers with his passes.
The Cowboys were going to be without CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin, but Prescott shredded the opposing defense with his surprising connection with Ryan Flournoy. The second-year wide receiver led the team in targets (9) and receiving yards (114) while being second in receptions (6).
George Pickens had a rather modest game, with just two receptions on four targets for 57 yards and one touchdown, all while Jake Ferguson dominated with seven receptions on nine targets for 49 yards and a pair of scores.
All in all, Prescott is posting an MVP-caliber season. He's completing 71.3 percent of his passes and has already thrown for 1,356 yards with ten touchdowns against three interceptions. He's also logged 12 carries for 50 yards and one score.
Then again, just like he said, this is just Week 5, and as well as he's playing, the Cowboys are just 2-2-1. Hopefully, once they're closer to full strength, Prescott will keep his foot on the gas, and this team will show what they're truly made of.
