On Tuesday night's scrimmage, the Saints and Cowboys got...physical, to say the least. Now, we fully expected Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer to make his players run until they couldn't, but instead, he took a different approach.
There were 10 or so fights according to Patrik Walker of the official Cowboys' website between the Saints and Cowboys. Maybe they were both ready to get football-ready again, but there was physicality on nearly every play. Schotty is usually the old-school guy who preaches discipline, and while he was still disappointed, he didn't back down.
"We’re certainly not going to take (expletive) from anybody, but again, it was chippy on both sides."
Brian Schottenheimer is standing up for his Dallas Cowboys
I love this from Schotty. He's someone who wants to play the right way, as every coach should, but this is about standing up for your team. In case you wanted to know how bad the scrimmage was, take a look.

We see chucking helmets, hitting players after the whistle and players coming out of piles with their helmets off.
It looks like the Saints were doing the cheap shots. What about this late hit on Javonte Williams, where the Cowboys weren't having any of it?

At one point, it was out of control, and everybody from both benches cleared and wanted to start something.
Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected for throwing a punch, but why shouldn't half the players on both sides have been ejected as well? Did we not see one of the Saints players body-slam Jalen Thompson to the ground? We saw massive piles of players grabbing helmets and such, and it seemed like the Cowboys were only trying to stand their ground.
Schotty's response is what everybody wants to see. A coach who has a lot of passion for the game and stands up for his players. This is a new-look Cowboys team that's adjusting to a new defensive coordinator and an entirely new system. They need someone to help step up for them, and they got someone to do that.
Even though the scrimmage was ugly, it showed that the Cowboys are in the perfect position with the right head coach running their team.
