Despite being down a number of key contributors, the Dallas Cowboys have continued to find ways to win. Putting themselves back in wildcard contention and on the fringes of the division race, the franchise has reason for a high level of optimism as they get ready for the return of key pieces. However, it doesn't appear to be great news on the potential return of CeeDee Lamb this week. Jerry Jones, doing his weekly radio spot, reported that the franchise had its "fingers crossed" on the potential return of Kavontae Turpin this week.
Furthering this point, The Athletic's Jon Machota reported that the most likely returns this week would be Turpin, Tyler Smith, and Tyler Guyon. This obviously leaves Lamb out of the discussion while not completely ruling out his return. Dallas has a very winnable game ahead on the road against the Carolina Panthers. In many ways, it makes sense to give Lamb an additional week to get healthy as the franchise prepares for an important divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders. This would make the most sense for a potential Lamb return.
Cowboys Receiver CeeDee Lamb Not Listed Among Probable Week 6 Returns
The bright side to this is the chance for continued dominance from pass catcher George Pickens. Losing Lamb has proven to be a blessing in the fact it allowed Dak Prescott and Pickens to grow incredible chemistry and flash the potential of what could be when Lamb returns to the lineup.
Having two elite and trusted weapons gives the Dallas offense an incredible ceiling. One that simply cannot be overlooked when it comes to the potential playoff picture. Opting to keep Lamb out of harm's way in a very winnable game is arguably the best approach if Lamb is going to be rushed back into the lineup for Sunday.
It is also important to note that we are still early in the week, and Lamb's status could quickly change based on the progress of the next days. Still, it seems likely that the Cowboys will choose to be cautious and hold the star pass catcher out one more week as they continue to monitor Lamb's progress.
This is the best approach and allows you a far better chance to beat the Commanders the following week, establishing the Cowboys as a true wildcard contender. Regardless, Lamb's return cannot come soon enough for a fan base excited about having one of, if not the league's best duo.
