College Phenom Doubles Down on Desire to Join Cowboys

With a few months before the 2025 NFL draft, Boise State superstar RB Ashton Jeanty has made it clear (again) that he wants to be a Dallas Cowboy.

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of thinking to do before the 2025 NFL Draft arrives in just over two months. America's Team will be on the clock early in Round 1, leaving Cowboys fans to debate who management should take with the 12th overall selection.

While plenty of names have been thrown around this offseason, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is a frequent Cowboys mock draft pick. Dallas is in dire need of a game-changing runner after Rico Dowdle (and Ezekiel Elliott) played to mixed results last season.

Fortunately, the collegiate RB phenom has made it clear he loves the idea of beginning his professional career in the Lone Star State.

Cowboys News: Ashton Jeanty Doubles Down on Dallas Desire

Jeanty was in attendance at Friday night's 2024 Doak Walker Award Banquet, where he was celebrated as the nation's top college RB. Following the ceremony, the Broncos runner was asked how he'd feel if Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones called his name on draft night.

"All the fans in Dallas, if they see me, they're telling me, 'We need you here, we want you here," Jeanty said, per Cowboys write Joe Bonham. "I think it would be a great opportunity for me and for the Cowboys if they take that chance. I would be very excited.

Jeanty's excitement about potentially joining the Cowboys is at the point where he's already certain of what number he'd don at AT&T Stadium.

"Gotta rock the deuce (No. 2) still, hopefully," the BSU prospect said with a smirk.

As it stands, veterans Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn are the only RBs currently under contract with the Cowboys. Elliott was waived in January before joining the Los Angeles Chargers for a brief playoff run while Dowdle will become a free agent in March, opening the door for Jeanty to take over Dallas' backfield.

The 21-year-old playmaker was a joy to watch throughout the 2024 NCAAF season. Jeanty smashed his way through defenses left and right, racking up 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 374 carries — each total good enough to lead the nation. He never finished with fewer than 104 rushing yards in an appearance and even surpassed the 200-yard mark six times.

Even if Jeanty only experiences half that success in any given NFL season, that'd still be better production than what the Cowboys experienced in 2024.

Jeanty's local connections would also make him an instant Dallas fan favorite. The RB prospect began his football career at Lone Star High School, which is less than an hour away from AT&T Stadium.

Cowboys fans will have a better idea if they should pre-order their Jeanty jersey the closer we get to the 2025 NFL draft, which begins on Thursday, Apr. 24 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI.
