Cowboys Admit Trade Mistake With Surprise Cut on Deadline Day
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys have been busy on Tuesday, making changes to their 53-man roster ahead of their Week 10 clash against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Tuesday morning, the Cowboys bolstered their wide receiver room, acquiring second-year receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. However, to make room for Mingo on the active roster, the Cowboys released cornerback Andrew Booth Jr.
After the Booth release, many Cowboys fans believed the team was done making moves. But Dallas made another change, this time to the defensive line.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, the Cowboys released veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. Dallas acquired Phillips in a trade from the New York Giants during the preseason.
The veteran defensive lineman signed a one-year, $1.79 million contract with the Giants earlier in the offseason.
The Cowboys expected the 32-year-old Phillips to play a sizable role on their defensive line this season after his last two seasons with the Bills.
However, the veteran lineman only appeared in two games this season before being placed on injured reserve on Sept. 18 after suffering a wrist injury that required surgery. The decision to cut Phillips and Booth is a direct indictment on the Cowboys’ front office.
They thought Phillips would be a good addition to their defensive line, but it didn’t pan out. The same could be said for the former second-round pick in Booth. Dallas will hope that former first-round pick Mazi Smith and veteran Linval Joseph can be a factor down the stretch.
