Cowboys Break Even More Bad News to Trey Lance in Week 11
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a horrendous performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10. The Cowboys were hammered 34-6 and received less-than-stellar QB play from Cooper Rush and Trey Lance.
Rush started for injured veteran quarterback Dak Prescott and had a tough time moving the ball against the Eagles. Rush completed 13-of-23 passes for 45 yards.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy tried to find a spark by bringing in Lance. However, that didn’t go well as he threw for 21 yards and an interception. The young dual-threat quarterback also had 17 rushing yards, which wasn’t impressive.
On Tuesday, Dallas owner Jerry Jones gave his thoughts on why Rush is still the Cowboys starter, not Lance.
“Because Cooper has shown that he has the capability to compete and win games,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan (h/t ESPN's Todd Archer). “And he does give us our best chance. Frankly that was really an out of character game for him based on what they’ve seen.”
Based on Jones’ comments on the radio, we likely won’t see Lance starting any time soon for Dallas. They still believe Rush gives them the best chance to win, even though he struggled mightily against the Eagles.
Lance brings a different element to the quarterback position, which Rush doesn’t possess. It’s understandable why some people want to see him get an opportunity. However, Dallas’ front office thinks Rush keeps them competitive.
Rush will get another shot on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans, who are coming off a tough loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 10.
