Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been using the last few weeks putting together his coaching staff for the 2025 season. Schottenheimer’s two most notable hires were Matt Eberflus (defensive coordinator) and Klayton Adams (offensive coordinator), who will immediately impact the teams’ success.

While most Cowboys fans' attention will be on those two guys, Schottenheimer has made a few good position coach hires, such as Junior Adams for wide receivers coach and Conor Riley as offensive line coach.

Adams and Riley come from the collegiate ranks, which excites Cowboys fans as the new Dallas head coach is going outside the organization for some of these position roles.

That said, the latest hire Schottenheimer made to his coaching staff should be familiar to Dallas fans as this coach was just with the team in 2019.

Cowboys Hire Carlos Polk to Help With Special Teams Unit

On Monday, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Carlos Polk will be the Cowboys’ assistant special teams coach. Polk interviewed for Dallas’ special teams coordinator vacancy, which went to Nick Sorensen.

Sorensen was let go by the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the season and is replacing John Fassel, who will be the new special teams coordinator with the Tennessee Titans.

Cowboys fans remember the 47-year-old Polk, who had coaching stints in Dallas in 2013 and 2019. Polk was a member of the Cowboys as a player, suiting up for the team in 2008 after spending the first six years of his playing career with the San Diego Chargers.

Before re-joining the Cowboys in his old role, Polk spent the last three years as the Chicago Bears assistant special teams coordinator. This means he will be reuniting with Eberflus in Dallas.

The former Cowboys defender also has playing experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-18), San Diego Chargers (2010-12), and Grossmont College (2009). Coincidentally, his first coaching opportunity at Grossmont was as an assistant head coach.
