It took him nearly two months, but defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus finally made the Dallas Cowboys' defense look good. They were pretty stout against the Washington Commanders, and while the visitors were undermanned, it was still the defense's best performance of the season, by far.

Now, help could be on the way. According to a report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys have officially opened the 21-day window for LB DeMarvion Overshown to make his long-anticipated season debut.

DeMarvion Overshown's Return Is the End of Jack Sanborn

"The Cowboys open the 21-day window for their talented LB," Rapoport wrote on X.

As good as this is for the Cowboys as a team, it actually spells disaster for Jack Sanborn. The former Chicago Bears star followed Eberflus to Arlington on a one-year deal worth $1.5 million, and while he looked like a true bargain on paper at the time of the signing, he's been a massive liability so far.

Sanborn has struggled mightily in coverage this season, and it already looked like the team was ready to call it quits on him. He was ruled out of the loss against the Carolina Panthers after suffering a concussion in the previous game. Shemar Jones made a strong impression in his replacement, and Sanborn didn't play a single snap against the Commanders despite being healhy and active.

Now, with Overshown back in the mix, there will be no need to turn back to the struggling Sanborn. The 24-year-old showed major signs of promise as a rookie, logging 90 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five QB hits, four pass deflections, and one pick last season.

Of course, it might be a while before he can actually get back on the field, as the team has 21 days to activate him. He sustained a complex injury, tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL, so the Cowboys need to make sure the medical staff does its due dilligence and Overshown is back to full strength before putting too much in his plate.

Even so, Overshown is one of the most athletic players in the league as proven by his combine results. He's already shown that he should be the future of the team at the position. Dallas just needs its current roster to hold down the fort for a little longer until he's finally ready to make his season debut.

As for Sanborn, it's hard to imagine any team being even slightly interested in trading for him, so the Cowboys will most likely be stuck with him until the end of the season unless they cut him to make room for someone else this year.
