The Dallas Cowboys fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 on Thursday in the season opener for the 2025 season.
While the game will be remembered for Jalen Carter spitting on Dallas QB Dak Prescott, drops by CeeDee Lamb played a big role in the loss. Lamb finished the game with a career-high four total drops, and he took all the blame following the loss.
When speaking to reporters following the loss, Lamb said, via Jon Mochata of The Athletic, "Honestly, I can’t point no fingers at nobody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it. For me as a player, I pray for moments like that for the ball to come my way. Obviously for me to not come up with it, that stings a little bit. But I will tell you, if you think I’m not coming back (10) times harder than this, you got another thing coming.”
CeeDee Lamb Takes Blame After Week 1 Loss
Lamb was the best player for the Cowboys throughout training camp, making big plays all over the field, but when the games started, the Oklahoma Sooners product dropped passes that he usually reels in.
Despite this happening on Thursday night, the confidence fans have in Lamb didn't waver. He took accountability for his mistakes, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn't worried about his star player.
Schottenheimer said, "Don’t worry about CeeDee Lamb. CeeDee’s going to be fine."
While Lamb did express that each drop stung, instead of pouting about it, he went back to work. Players for the Cowboys had Friday and the weekend off, but Lamb went into the facility and got some work in while no one was watching. He spent time outside using the juggs machine to get some extra reps in.
That extra work on the practice field should help prevent this outcome for Lamb or the Cowboys from happening again.
Regardless of the drops, it wasn't all bad for the wideout by any stretch of the imagination. Lamb was Dallas' leading WR, as he had team-highs in catches (7) and receiving yards (110).
Over 10 career games versus Philadelphia, he has logged 57 catches for 784 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The 26-year-old has played well in his career against the Birds, but Thursday's contest included some less-than-memorable moments.
That's a part of being in the NFL, though. Not every game will be your best, and that was the case in Week 1 for Lamb. Of course, he feels terrible about it, but he went right back to work to correct the problem. And that's what you want from your star player.
