Cowboys Coach Surprisingly Not Committed for 2025 Season
The Dallas Cowboys are playing for pride since they have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Dallas sits with a 7-8 record going into Week 17. This group has won four of their last five games, and there have been rumors that the Cowboys may look to bring Mike McCarthy back in 2025.
Nothing is set in stone and things can change over the next couple of weeks. The chatter for the offseason has started picking up and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer didn't give a confident answer that he will return in 2025.
When speaking to team reporters earlier this week, Zimmer was asked if he would come back in 2025 and his answer wasn't assuring.
Zimmer said, "We’ll see. Let’s wait until the end of the year and see where we’re at."
The Illinois native was out of the league for two seasons before getting hired by the Cowboys. It hasn't been an easy season for the Dallas defense. Over different stretches of the campaign, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, DeMarcus Lawrence, and DeMarvion Overshown have missed time, making things tough on Zimmer.
The Cowboys are currently ranked 27th in the NFL in total defense (359.6) and 30th in scoring defense (26.9). Those numbers could look very different if they had their full unit but Zimmer was only given a one-year deal in the first place. He will be 69 years old by the time the 2025 season kicks off, so maybe he could be looking to step away.
Or maybe he doesn't want to be in Dallas anymore. Who knows what Zimmer is thinking right now but it's clear that he isn't 100% locked in for the next season. Instead, he going to enjoy these two games before making a decision.
The Cowboys replaced Dan Quinn with Zimmer just last season. Now there's a chance they could be looking for another defensive coordinator once again.
