After ripping off two consecutive wins over the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dallas Cowboys fell flat on their face Sunday, losing 47-9 at home to the Detroit Lions. It was an ugly performance from the Cowboys, who struggled on both sides of the ball.

The lack of preparation and poor play didn’t help Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, who entered the 2024 season as a lame-duck head coach. After getting embarrassed at home by Detroit, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he’s not considering a coaching change.

However, the rumors swirling around the Cowboys and their next potential head coach are already in full swing.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, people around the league are wondering if Dallas could become a primary landing spot for former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in the offseason, should the Cowboys make a change.

Schultz adds that Belichick has a “really great” relationship with the Jones family, per multiple sources.

If the Cowboys parted ways with McCarthy at the end of the season, no one would be surprised to see Belichick at the top of their list. After seeing how things have played out over the last few years in Dallas, Jones would welcome Belichick’s voice and opinion.

Belichick had an ugly 2023 season with the Patriots, which helped them get the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, if the Super Bowl-winning head coach would take over the Cowboys, he would have a supremely better roster than he did in his last two years with the Pats.

Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ brass are still sticking by McCarthy, but if the Cowboys get beat up by the San Francisco 49ers after the bye, those rumors and calls from the fanbase will only get louder.
