Cowboys' dream of returning to NFC East supremacy has never had an easier path

There's so much baggage in the rest of the NFC East that Cowboys fans are loving right now.

It's never an easy path to win your division in the NFL, but it looks like the stars are aligning perfectly for the Dallas Cowboys to take back the NFC East amidst some rough times for the rest of the division.

While the Cowboys still have tons of questions to answer on defense, it looks like star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has already been "annoyed" by the disguised schemes. This is Christian Parker written all over it, and we haven't even highlighted the job that pass rush specialist Brandon "BT" Jordan has done yet.

But for the rest of the division, it looks like they're already playing catch-up. At least that's what CBS Sports writer Jordan Dajani thinks when talking about how the Cowboys are already at a clear advantage against their NFC division foes.

"With the NFC East seemingly in flux, the Cowboys getting to double-digit wins looks enticing. Jalen Hurts is at a crossroads, having lost A.J. Brown; the Commanders are back to being a bottom-feeder without Jayden Daniels; and the Giants are a major question mark. I like the Cowboys getting to 10-7."

The Dallas Cowboys have it perfectly lined up to win NFC East in 2026

The Cowboys don't need to worry about A.J. Brown anymore, but that may not be the only thing plaguing the Philadelphia Eagles, as the drama on the team may extend further than that.

Jalen Hurts has been one of the head-scratching quarterbacks in the NFL at times, as he can be a slow decision-maker with an inability to throw the ball over the middle of the field. Former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo may be gone, but Hurts hears plenty of noise among his fanbase too.

The Washington Commanders have one of the biggest mysteries of 2026, as they will get Jayden Daniels back from a dislocated shoulder last season, but they have a tough opening schedule. Washington will face back-to-back NFC East teams on the road, only to see the Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 3. It will be an attempted bounce-back season for Daniels, but let's see how his new defense plays out.

The New York Giants are the biggest dark horse in the division. With Malik Nabers' Week 1 status up in the air and Gunner Olszewski out for the season, the Giants have turned back the clock to their old friend, Odell Beckham Jr., out of desperation. John Harbaugh is a great coach to have, but they have a lot of youngsters and question marks headed into the season.

The Cowboys are the only team with some clarity on both ends of the ball. Parker is a respected defensive mind, and that's all they need to be a relevant team once again. No one is saying the Cowboys are going to breeze through the NFC East, but they don't have as many question marks as the rest of the pack.

Back-to-back losing seasons, especially for the most valuable sports franchise on the planet, aren't going to cut it with Cowboys fans. The NFL world already knows the Cowboys offense is one of the best in the world, and their main assignment is pretty simple. Get just a tad better on defense. If they do that, the sky is the limit for the Cowboys.
