After a relatively quiet start to free agency on Monday, the Dallas Cowboys went on a spending spree on Day 2 of the legal tampering period.

On Tuesday, the Cowboys addressed the defensive line (signing Solomon Thomas and Payton Turner) and re-signed Pro Bowl kick returner KaVontae Turpin to a massive three-year, $18 million deal. None of these moves will make major shockwaves, but the Cowboys need depth on the defensive line and needed to keep Turpin.

To end the second day of free agency, Dallas made another key special teams move, bringing back veteran punter Bryan Anger. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Anger and the Cowboys agreed to a two-year deal.

With Anger back for another two seasons, the Cowboys have locked in their special teams unit for the foreseeable future.

On Monday, Dallas reportedly re-signed long snapper Trent Sieg to a three-year, $4.45 million contract. Pro Bowl kicker Brandon Aubrey is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, so he's due for an extension in the near future.

Anger has spent the last four years with the Cowboys after joining Dallas in 2021 on a one-year deal. Last season, the veteran punter averaged 48.5 yards per punt, had three punt touchbacks, and produced 24 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20 yard line.

This is the 36-year-old’s second contract extension with the Cowboys as he signed a three-year, $9 million contract in Mar. 2022. During his four-year run with the Cowboys, Anger was named to the Pro Bowl and second team All-Pro twice in 2021 and 2023.

As a Cowboy, the veteran punter averages 49.0 yards per punt — notably higher than his career average (47.0). This signing won’t excite the Cowboys fan base as they want to see the team do more in free agency, but making sure the special teams unit is locked is a good first start.
