The Dallas Cowboys have had a much more active 2024 free agency than they did in 2023. Currently, Dallas has signed and/or traded for 16 players, a significant increase from the two they signed in 2023. That said, superstar defensive end Micah Parsons has yet to ink a new deal with the Cowboys.
On Tuesday, Parsons's brother, Terrence, responded to a fan's post on X exclaiming that the Cowboys finally paid Micah. Terrence responded, " Not yet, but they in serious talks, is all ima say." Unsurprisingly, the news of serious talks happening between the two sides got Cowboys fans excited

Unfortunately, it seems that this isn't the case. According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, two league sources have confirmed that not only is a deal not done, but what would be characterized as meaningful contract discussions have not even begun yet.
While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked. Not only is it NOT done but what would be characterized as meaningful talks havenβt even begun yet per two sources informed.

Micah Parsons Contract Extension Talks Have Reportedly Yet to Begin
While Slater's reporting is disappointing, Cowboys fans should not be surprised. Jerry Jones always drags contract extensions out for what feels like forever. Look at both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb; they both didn't sign a contract until right before the season started. Prescott signed on September 8, 2024, while Lamb signed on August 26, 2024.
Waiting to sign both of those players led to them becoming among the highest-paid players at their position at the time of their signing. Dallas is putting itself in the same exact situation with Parsons. On March 9, the Cleveland Browns made superstar defensive end Myles Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, giving him a four-year contract with a salary of $40 million a season and $123.5 in guarantees.
While Garrett only held the mantle of highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history for one week, thanks to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, he is still the highest-paid defensive end. As a result, Parsons will certainly want to be paid within Garrett's range.
If Jones had been quicker to the punch, Dallas might have been able to save a bit of money on the 25-year-old superstar. Nonetheless, the Cowboys are in a position they are all too familiar with, but unlike other teams, they're trying to thrive in this type of uncertainty.
