When the 2024 season ended, the Dallas Cowboys were in need of a change. After winning 12 games in each of the past three seasons, Dallas slumped to 7-10 last year and it caused them to part ways with former head coach Mike McCarthy. With Brian Schottenheimer’s arrival, fans knew there were going to be some big changes. But some are going to be more popular than others.
The first wave of changes came as the Cowboys gathered for voluntary OTA workouts this week and one change with the quarterbacks is sure to leave fans ready to riot as Schottenheimer prepares for his first seasons with the team.
Brian Schottenheimer is Reportedly Changing Cowboys QB Cadence
According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, the Cowboys are making changes to their quarterbacks’ cadence before the snap. If you’re not sure what that means, you’ll realize it before the snap as Machota reports that there will be no more Dak Prescott shouting “Here we goooo!” when he gets to the line of scrimmage.
As Machota points out in the video, it wasn’t just a Prescott thing as Trey Lance and Cooper Rush both screamed “Here we goooo!” before plays during last year’s training camp. But it became one as fans linked the phrase with the Dallas starter.
Prescott’s cadence became a viral sensation after he started doing it in 2023. It even became a rap song as artists Preston Wayne and 13lackbeard released “Here we gooo!” in November of that season. While the call was popular, it served a purpose as it kept the offensive line on the same page and keep them aware of what play was being run.
Other quarterbacks have some signature phrases such as Aaron Rodgers’s “Green 19” during his time with the Green Bay Packers. But few became as noticeable as Prescotts. As a result, Cowboys fans aren’t taking the news well, reacting (perhaps sarcastically) on social media.
Perhaps Prescott will have a new phrase as part of the changes, but it’s looking like Sunday’s will never sound the same for Cowboys fans.
