Normally, the happenings within the NBA would have little to no crossover impact on the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, but that isn't the case after this week's shocking news on the Buss family electing to sell the majority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers for a record-breaking $10 billion valuation.

This has raised a few questions in the sports world, with one of the main focuses being placed on Jerry Jones and his ownership stake in the Cowboys. Jones has owned the organization since purchasing the team, stadium, and other debts associated with the franchise in 1989 for $140 million and enjoyed plenty of success, especially early in his tenure as owner.

When it comes to brand value alone, the Cowboys are second to none in professional sports in North America. This includes the Lakers, although one could argue they are the closest to Dallas when it comes to NBA franchises. Seeing a number like $10 billion floated has to be an eye-opener for Jones, regardless of his desire to bring another Super Bowl to Dallas, as he knows his franchise would sell for more.

Would Jones actually sell the franchise? That is a question only he knows the answer to. However, if he did, the argument could be made that Cowboys fans would be the biggest winners of all.

There is no debating the team's luck has fizzled during the 2000s, and Dallas enters the 2025 campaign having gone 30 years without qualifying to play in, let alone win, the NFC Championship game. Jones serves as the owner and GM of the franchise, a combination that isn't seen anywhere else in the NFL.

Jones has done things his way since taking over the team in 1989. While he has transformed the brand into one of the most iconic in all of sports, there hasn't been anywhere near enough winning on the field for fans to be confident in this approach.

It is a situation that is completely out of the control of the fan bases hands but, if I had to guess, a sizable contingent of Cowboys supporters would be willing to see a change in ownership if it meant a more traditional approach in the front office than the type of power Jerry holds right now.
