There were a lot of things that went wrong in the Dallas Cowboys’ 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Dak Prescott threw a pair of interceptions and George Pickens showed his ugly side as the Cowboys fell to 1-2. But the most concerning event may have been when CeeDee Lamb suffered an ankle injury.

Lamb is the top playmaker on the Cowboys offense and any prolonged absence could make the current hole Dallas has dug an even larger one. Fortunately, Jerry Jones delivered some good news via The Athletic’s Jon Machota, saying that team doctors have said Lamb's injury isn’t as serious as it could have been.

Lamb was injured and was limited to six plays after turning his ankle with 8:34 left in the first quarter. Lined up in the backfield as a running back, Lamb took the carry and was tackled by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell. Sewell landed on the back of Lamb’s legs which resulted in his ankle getting caught in the turf. While he returned to the game for one play in the second quarter, he didn’t look right and was officially ruled out after halftime.

With the announcement, the minds of Cowboys fans started to worry, especially with a Week 4 matchup with the Green Bay Packers looming. But Lamb wasn’t in a boot after the game and sounded optimistic himself when describing the injury to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

“This was like one of those protect me away from myself type of deals,” Lamb said. “Once I started feeling much better and then I started getting strength back in my ankle as far as mobility and being able to cut and like real dynamic movements, I was ready to go back out there, but [the medical staff] told me no.”

Jones added that he will “keep our fingers crossed” regarding Lamb’s injury and the star receiver will undergo an MRI on Monday. But after watching the Packers rush Zach Tom back to the field too early on Sunday, it’s likely the Cowboys made the correct decision.

With 16 catches for 222 yards over the first two games, the Cowboys will need Lamb to get where they want to go, making the initial update the good news Dallas needs before hosting Green Bay.
