The Dallas Cowboys stole the headlines earlier this week, as they hired Philadelphia Eagles DBs coach/passing game coordinator Christian Parker to be their next defensive coordinator.
Cowboys fans were already pleased to have Matt Eberflus out the door, but then replacing him with Parker, who is considered a rising star in the coaching ranks, is a win-win. Dallas gets a much better coach on defense, who has done outstanding work with some of the best DBs in the league, and this hurts the Eagles, who won the NFC East for two straight years.
Now, the Eagles must find a replacement for Parker and hope that he doesn’t steal any guys from Philadelphia to bring to Dallas.
Speaking of the Eagles, they’re on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator, as they immediately announced days after their playoff loss that Kevin Patullo would no longer serve in that role. The Eagles haven’t been able to get any of their top guys, unlike Dallas. That said, Philadelphia tried to steal a coach from Dallas, and the Cowboys shut that down.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles requested an interview with Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams for their OC vacancy, but Dallas blocked the request.
Cowboys Give Eagles Stiff-Arm by Denying Klayton Adams’ Interview Request
Since Adams doesn’t call the plays, as that role belongs to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys still had the chance to block the request since it was considered a lateral move.
In his first season with the Cowboys, Adams has played an instrumental role in helping make this offense one of the best in the league. The Cowboys were ranked second in total yards (391.9 yards per game), second in passing (266.3 yards per game), and ninth in rushing yards (125.6 yards per game).
In fact, one could argue that Adams, who was an offensive line coach for two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the Cowboys, played a part in Javonte Williams’ resurgence this season.
Despite being on a one-year deal, Williams played like a top-10 running back this season, as he ran for a career-high 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns on 252 carries. Dallas hopes that Adams can do the same with Williams if he’s back, along with the other RBs in the backfield.
While it's flattering to see the Eagles trying to pick the mind of Adams, they’ll need to go elsewhere to find their answer to their offensive coordinator woes.
