The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league right now. And while people are raving about quarterback Dak Prescott — and rightfully so — the running game has also played a big part in their success.

Veteran running back Javonte Williams has turned back the clock, looking like a legitimate star and playing arguably the best football of his career. Unfortunately, with Miles Sanders' season-ending injury and rookie RB Jaydon Blue not generating much, the Cowboys don't have much depth behind him.

With that in mind, America's Team might look to trade for a veteran who happens to live in Texas.

Cowboys Must Monitor Texans RB Dameon Pierce Before Trade Deadline

The Houston Texans dropped another game to fall to 2-4, and with the way their offense has struggled this season, they might be inching closer to being sellers at the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline. Even if that's not the case, they clearly don't have much use for Dameon Pierce, who's played only 23 offensive snaps across two games this season.

Pierce has fallen way behind in the pecking order. He was supposed to have a role competing with Nick Chubb after Joe Mixon suffered an injury, but that hasn't been the case. So far, rookie Woody Marks has emerged as their primary ball-carrier, and Pierce didn't even record a carry in Monday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones has always had a thing for veteran running backs (Williams and Sanders, Ezekiel Elliott in 2024), and Pierce should be pretty cheap and easy to get at this point. He's logged just 10 carries for 26 yards behind the Texans' shaky offensive line, but he could give this team a strong punch behind Williams if given more opportunities.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn't seem to trust Blue that much. He's called out the rookie running back multiple times this season, and it wasn't until Sanders fell with a season-ending injury that they gave him a chance. He was decent with seven carries for 29 yards in the win over the Washington Commanders, but he might not have done enough to convince Schottenheimer yet.

The former Florida star had an impressive rookie campaign for the Texans, rushing 220 times for 939 yards and four touchdowns. Then, he failed to get anything going behind their offensive line, starting just seven of 14 games in the following season and then none of the eleven games last year. Clearly, a fresh start is needed.

Pierce might welcome a move to another place where he can be appreciated, and he could certainly give the Cowboys a bit of a punch behind their primary ball-carrier.
