Cowboys legend Jimmy Johnson is apparently not done beefing with Jerry Jones

We know, Jimmy. We know.

Jimmy Johnson, the legendary Dallas Cowboys head coach who won two Super Bowls in the 90s, will always hold a special place in Cowboys lore. Johnson has thrown Jerry Jones under the bus (multiple times) for leaving, but the former Super Bowl-winning coach took it to another level on 'X' on Thursday.

He posted the "responsibilities" of the Cowboys, signaling in his contract that he had more control than most (if not all) other Cowboys head coaches since his tenure. Johnson acted as another general manager with the head-coaching duties, and he decided to give a random reminder to people that the Cowboys just... aren't the same since he left.

For years, Johnson has blamed Jones for the golden era dying in the 90s. Johnson had a great thing going with his players, and even though his tough-love stance may not work with every player in today's NFL, he was the right guy for the job.

His responsibilities went as far as famously cutting backup running back Curvin Richards after he fumbled the ball twice in a meaningless game. Has any other Cowboys coach since Johnson ever had a say in that? Maybe a say, but not the final decision. Johnson discussed it briefly in the documentary. "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys."

"Most coaches will tell you that cutting a player is one of the hardest things you have to do, I don't think it is."

No Cowboys coach since then has ever had this sort of authority, as far as we know, and maybe Johnson is once again pointing the finger at Jones as to why the Cowboys haven't seen much success since the 90s.

After Johnson left, Jones wanted to make it about himself and win a Super Bowl without Johnson. He did with Barry Switzer in 1995, which was also the last time the Cowboys made the NFC Championship Game, but they were better with Johnson leading the charge.

It looked like the beef was over after Johnson was finally inducted into the Cowboys' Ring of Honor in 2023. As a reminder, Johnson left the Cowboys in the spring of 1994. That's a long time to be mad at your former boss. But even in the documentary, Johnson has indicated that he didn't want to share his accomplishments, and he's admitted that he's partially to blame for the split.

But throwing himself into the mix on social media doesn't solve anything here. This is clearly a love/hate relationship that goes back to the mid-90s, and Cowboys fans are just about over it.

But that was then, and this is now. We have a whole generation of Cowboys fans who haven't seen their team in an NFC Championship Game, and every NFC team in the 21st century has made it. Johnson may be right that he was the best coach Jones ever hired, but we're trying to get results in this century.

Why Johnson picked this random battle, we're not sure. But we do know we have a season fans are hyped about, and we need to focus on the present, not the past.
