The Dallas Cowboys have continued to be haunted by injuries, with the latest setback being losing Miles Sanders for the season. It isn't the end of the world for a limited player, but far from ideal and will put rookie Jaydon Blue in an elevated role. One that the Cowboys seemed to have very little trust in the rookie can fulfill. This is evidenced by Sanders' poor production and the fact that Blue still hasn't managed to stay on the field with any level of consistency. Opening the door to possible free agent additions, including Zack Moss, who must be the perfect balance to the current backfield.

Moss has over 2,300 career rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in a depth role. The veteran is a punishing runner who could be used as a change-of-pace option if Blue doesn't live up to expectations. It is the perfect signing, giving you proven depth without taking away the rookie's chance to win a contributing role. If the rookie fails, you know what to expect from Moss and are able to have a reliable option behind Javonte Williams, already rostered.

The Cowboys Must Add to an Injured Backfield Bringing in Veteran Back Zack Moss

Williams has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 season, establishing himself as one of the league's most productive backs a year after looking to be a questionable reserve option. Now, you need to continue to help Williams and the hot start continue by bringing in stability to the position. Moss gives you just that, despite being a free agent this deep into the season.

Sitting without a landing spot speaks to the new depth at the position and not a lack of talent. Even last season, behind an awful Bengals offensive line, the back scored two touchdowns and finished with 242 rushing yards in a reserve role. The only concerning stat is yards-per-carry, and this only went down due to playing behind an awful offensive line incapable of setting up the run or protecting Joe Burrow. Evidenced by Cincy's record and Joe Burrow's recent injury history over the last two seasons.

Dallas can offer far more offensive stability and give Moss a chance to breathe life back into his career. Signing the veteran gives you two potential options and keeps the door open to a blockbuster trade or future move if it is deemed necessary.

Signing Moss isn't about replacing Sanders right now, but having a needed second option if Blue cannot live up to expectations over the next handful of games. Leaving no question, it is a cheap move the team must make ahead of Week 7.
