The Dallas Cowboys have had a longstanding rivalry with their NFC East counterpart in Washington, D.C., and it looks like it is time for America's Team to put the franchise with three different names over the last decade in its place.

With the recent news that the league has decided to inconvenience its entire fan base by placing the 2027 NFL Draft on the National Mall, the Washington Commanders have taken a direct shot at the Cowboys by referring to themselves as "America's Team."

In the video below, Commanders Foundation Chair Marjorie Harris took great pride during a press conference on Monday in referring to Washington's franchise with the moniker the Cowboys have owned for decades.

Commanders Must Be Humbled After Stealing Cowboys' Nickname

First things first, the Commanders, Football Team, or whatever you want to call them, might be the furthest thing from America's Team. This franchise saw its fan base, one of the most loyal in the NFL, go out of their way to disassociate themselves with the team because of how former owner Dan Snyder handled himself and the organization.

Beyond the terrible optics of the Snyder era, the Commanders haven't won anything of consequence in over 30 years. They don't have the global fan base that the Cowboys boast. They have a stadium that has long been considered one of the worst in the NFL from a safety perspective for the players and a fan perspective for those who make the trip out to Landover, MD, to watch them play.

While things appear to be trending in the right direction with Jayden Daniels under center, the Commanders still have a long way to go before they start throwing around claims of being "America's Team" and not expecting the rest of the football world to laugh in their faces.

For reference, the true America's Team is a one-sided 14-6 against the Commanders (and their multiple monikers) since the start of the 2015 NFL season.

Humbling the Commanders is something the Cowboys and their fans can take pleasure in doing twice this coming season. If there were a perfect franchise to put Washington's football team in its place, it is Dallas.
